Undercoating

My friend and I are tearing into his 73 Cortina. We are trying to get the front fenders off, but the insides are covered with thick undercoatong. The bottoms of the doors and quarters are also coated but sprayed with the same color as the body. Did this car come from the factory like this?

Re: Undercoating

Is it a thick glue like substance? if so, then yeah I'm pretty sure that they came like that from factory.

I'd take a look at my Corty if it still had doors and stuff (speedway car)
