Weight of the mighty Corty

well yeah been toying with the idea of getting a TD cortina, i like the curves on the TD rather than the squareness of the TE TF, but how much do they all weigh? i'd be looking at the 6 cylinder model, any help would be good guys

Re: Weight of the mighty Corty

I'd say the capri was about 150kg lighter, but once you put a decent axle and heavy brakes the difference might be less.

Re: Weight of the mighty Corty

I had a look thru the brochures & owner/service & workshop manuals that I have for a TC. Only reference to weight that I could find was in the Service Manual ( 73 TC xle). You will have to convert it to kgs and the manual states that they are approx weights.
Kerb Weight
4 dr sedan 4cyl 2,176lb
6cyl 2,509lb
Wagon 4cyl 2,326lb
6cyl 2,638lb

Good luck!!

Re: Weight of the mighty Corty

Kerb Weight
4 dr sedan 4cyl 2,176lb = 987kg (i am suree mine said 1020 on the rego papers)
6cyl 2,509lb = 1138kg
Wagon 4cyl 2,326lb = 1055kg
6cyl 2,638lb = 1196

I reckon add about another 30-50 kgs on those figures they seem a bit light.

Jason

Re: Weight of the mighty Corty

You could be right Jason. The manual also states in a Note: " Add 55lb for auto transmission" which is another 25kg or so. I guess kerb weight means without oil/petrol etc. I'll ferret out my old rego papers & compare.
Also came across extract of some original Wheels road test figures from Jan & July '73 for the 250ci 4spd (155bhp @ 4000 rpm)
In Jan '73
0-60mph 11 sec
0-80mph 19.9sec
Standing qtr 17.5sec (probably on BR70H13 radials on 51/2 inch rims)
Speed in gears
1st 42mph
2nd 63mph
3rd 85mph
4th 112mph
Scary stuff. could never get mine to change direction on my terms!
