Re: What do ya recon of MK II cortina's

he gets 2.2 out of a 1.6 kent motor???????

sorry just doesnt ad up. Can get close to 1800 boring (not so exciting lol). you cant make up another 0.4 by stroking a little motor.

Not heard of Brett Curran but sounds like a nice car. The head would be what allows him past 200hp with a pinto. With no head change, just moded standard pinto head 200hp is about the limit.

Re: What do ya recon of MK II cortina's

Hey,

Im back, Computer went bung - but you get that.

Anyhoo, a 1600 cannot make it to 2 litres, let alone 2.2L. The biggest I've ever heard of was a 1900cc Race engine that needed sleeving constantly. Maybe with a really silly stroke you could break 2L, but the joy of an EsCortina is revving the nuts off the thing whilst sliding through corners - not towing a caravan.

As for the 1500 Xflow, I've never seen one in the flesh, but apparently they lived in Italian versions of the MkII Cortina. Ah, start with a 1600, at least you've got a few more cubes to play with. For Pintos, the biggest number I've heard of was a 215hp(approx) from HT Racing in the UK. That was for an NA Pinto. Turbos can make silly power, but only when filled with Cossie (or better) bits.

An Update on the Corty.

Its gone back to the panel shop, and I got bored not tinkering. So I bought a new 1967 Morris 1100 for the princely sum of $500. For a few thousand more its now painted, running an unleaded 1293A+, rally cam, HIF44 SU, electronic dizzy and a few other goodies. It has a nice lumpy idle and can easily smoke the tyres. So its a fun drive until I finally finish the Cortina. But its already been 8 years .....

Before you ask, an executive decision was made on the 'Tina. Basically a silly engine. I picked up 4 Ducati Pacer* carbs, simply because they were made by Ferrari. As an end result, the engine is now getting rebuilt to cope with the flow (horsepower) potential of these pieces of Italian insanity. Which just happen to look really nice sitting next to the twink head. Since I've decided on a silly engine, it seemed wrong to stick it in a less than perfect shell. So I pulled it apart some more and before long, it was back in the panel shop.

BTW, as the car collection has grown to four, the better half has informed me that some have to go. If you know of anyone who'd be interested in a 1994 ED Falcon V8 with only 72000 kays on the clock, let me know on 0438680550. Never been smacked, apart from the odd parking lot annoyance. Looking around $11000 for it.

L8a,
Prud

*The Ducati Pacer was a 750cc motorcycle with twin carbs. Revved to silly double digit numbers. The 2TGEU bottom end will do double digits, the trick will be getting a decent set of valve springs that dont bind.

Re: What do ya recon of MK II cortina's

Yup, had a couple of mkII's - breathed on corectly they can go quite hard. As for your probs, you might want to look at cam timing maybe? Been a few years since I've had a kent motor ... recent cars have all had pintos in them being later marks.

Driven several examples incl. GT's GTE's and such. They're fantastic fun and very forgiving if you push them hard ... they don't bite too hard. You do have to watch the oil level though ... if it runs low you can blow the motor on a hard corner as the oil runs to one side of the motor. Biggest kent motor I've heard of was the BDA which was an 1800. Cheers, hope that helps.
