ok so
in my quest to make my car that little bit lighter step 1 for me would be, to change the fuel tank into one made out of aluminum. this is because i see it as being the cheepest and least hassling way to make the car lighter (if im wrong plz correct me). i would like to ask if i need to put some sort of solution in the tank to keep it from corroding from the in side or if the petrol its self is protection enough.

i am going top put the tank in the boot and hopefully there wont be to many problems.

engine will fit but might need to make custom mounts for it.. unsure tho. loom + ECU == no probs.

the front brakes and rear diff leave them as the corty ones.. should be fine and the escort would be a different setup and wouldnt bolt on..

gearbox might need a modified crossmember to bolt to the floor.

propshaft im unsure about.. and the radiator and hoses u might need to change but if the inlet and outlet on the motor is on the same sides as the standard cortina radiator then you should be ok but possibly might need different hoses to suit... but im sure thats no worries as theyres loads of cars out there with different hoses.. just need to find one that looks and bends the correct way (wreckers is a good place to have a look thru loads of cars for this if you need to)

either way. its going to cost a few pennies and time to do it :)

there ant really a lot to get rid of in a corty unfortenly.
depends on how far you wanna go.
you could get rid of the spare tyre jack and wheel brace the rear seat you could take most of the gussets out of the boot and boonet and leave the outer ones and fit single piece race seats for driver/passenger.
a good easy engine up grade whould an old formula ford engine same as yours but 1600cc and tunned up to deliver about 100+hp.
as far as i know the cosy 2 uses same mounts as the 2lohc so if you got those mounts should nilly bolts in.
other option whuld be a set of extractors with an open exhaust 2 1/4in with a resignator should do nicely an aftermarket inletmanifold with a 32/36 carby off a 2lohc this will free up any ponnies that arnt free.
some alloy13in with say 185 50 should drop a little weight to and be a bigger advantage as its rotaional mass (for every kg lost you gain 1.74kw) and unsprung to (for every 10kg you drop eqvilent to lossing 100kg out of the car in handleing terms)
if its manual put atf3 auto fluid in the gearbox + diff (doesent matter if auto with diff) this will reduce the drag that the oil makes on the bearings gears freeing a few more hp.
a thermo fan will help to.

i just found something alittle cheeper but not shure if its better. i found a ford capri 3000cc v6 engine. the problem is that i have a fort 1.3l gear box i want to ask if any 1 knows what gear box i will need to fit it onto the 3l engine and if i can use the standerd cortina diff and shaft. will the gearbox from an escort mk1 2000cc engine do the job or will i need something better.

nfi on what fits and works but they where released in south africa with the 3l v6 so should be able to find info.
