Has anyone tried to use the early factory smog pumps and re-route the air so that instead of supplying air to the exhaust manifolds, supplying it to the carb or aircleaner assembly. Would this work?? would there be too much turbulance? Or would it have no effect at all?

no effect other then bearly any at idle, the velocity of air into an engine is surpisingly quick, hence blowers and turbos spin at very high rpm to out accelerate the air velocity and provide a forced inductoin.

A better use for the smog pump would be to suck the air out of the rocker covers and discharge into a catch can.

IF all your engine gaskets are sealing good this will provided a more posistive ring seal.
