Cheap way for setting up a Turbo EB

Gudday Fellas,
Just wondering if there is a cheap, not really cheap, whay for setting up an EB 4.0L with a Turbo? I am trying to think of ways to build the power in my motor without doing Cams and stuff alike. I'm thinking of CAPA's Supercharger kit, but for $6000 is it cheaper going with a turbo setup. I'm only looking for something that when you put your fut down you get a throw back on the seat. I'm open for comments of any form.
Thanks,
Ash

a cheap turbo setup will eventualy be that. a CHEAP setup. You would be looking at $4k to do it properly at a minium

Re: Cheap way for setting up a Turbo EB

Thats all good, but, What if i'm only looking for a low amount of boost, and not wanting to rebuild my whole engine with forged pistons etc. It was just raised the other day with my mates as to what path to take. A few people I have spoken too reckon that I could get away with a small turbo and an aftermarket ECU. The 4K you are talking about, is that just for what I am talking about?
Thanks for the replies, keep em coming.

Re: Cheap way for setting up a Turbo EB

i posted this in another thread, but its not hard to cut and paste,

do a search for my posts, you'll pick something up i hope lol

turboing ur car is not something to take lightly.

to have a reliable turbo set up on a cheap budget.

grab a t03/04 hybrid. on a custom manifold (there are cast ones floating round but ard to find... try avo turboworld).

use a ed intake manifold, and either a supra or mazda series 4 rx-7 frount mount intercooler

run no more then 6 psi which is the limit of a standard fuel system,

you can run around 12 psi to a healthy standard bottom end, but will require a fueling upgrade with a psi level of only 8 psi.

if your really serious, a t04 turbo with a t66 compressor, a acl race series rebuild kit on a prepped bottom end, some 550cc injectors a bosch 044 fuel pump, with a malpassi rising rate reg. cylinder head is up to you, get compression down to 8.3-8.8. to one. this combo will be enuf to see over 450rwhp. but then you have gearbox and diff issues.

it really adds up money wise, but is well worth it.

be realistic about costs of parts, and labour, do as much as you can your self,

speed cost money how fast do you want to go?

if your after just a bit quicker car, or just enuf to beat X car, and not willing to outlay 5 grand into the set alone, then stop the turbo talk and do a search for basic mods to get some grunt.

turboing the car is a serious modification, only do it if your dedicated, otherwise your reallt just wasteing your money and everyones time.

sorry if i seem a little negitive, i dont mean to, but with nearly 30 pm's a week of people asking what to do for turbocharging. and their's a lot of time wasters out there, i rather focus on people who are actualy wanting to do it.

dnt get me wrong i am happy to help you out if ur willing and keen,

if ur serious, give me a pm or post up another question i'll help you out as much as i can

the cheapest i have set up a turbocharged falcon for was 4k, and that was at mates rates,

to4e/p turbo- 1700
intercooler- 800
fuel pump- 300
injectors- 300
turbo manifold-400

thats- 3700,
then add 600 minimum for a re-tune and ecu mods with dyno time.

good luck mate.

cheers.joe.

GULP!!!!
Thanks for that Joe, Seems you really know your stuff. Your right I think. If I'm going to tackle this stuff, seems you have to have the dollars to back you up. Tanks again Joe and hopefully sometime next year I will be in contact with you again.
Cheers

Not that cheap as in cheap parts though some are second hand rebuilt as in turbo and wastgate. We made the exhaust manifold ourselves..EB is a metal fabricator and is realy realy fussy. The only part that hasn't been done by himself is tuning the EMS..Under 8 Lp an aftermarket ecu is not required..
A rising rate fuel reg with various ratio's helps..

You could start with a GT40 turbo for around $2200 with integral waste gate.Or..
Second hand VG30T turbo for around $500 get it set up. Then latter overhaul it with bigger cold side a.r .7 ? approx $700..Non b.b....

Re: Cheap way for setting up a Turbo EB

As gm destroya posted a cheap setup is around the 3500 mark, but that is dead cheap, only run 6psi-8psi, and sometimes you could run 12psi, but make sure its setup on a dyno, have a extra injector when running 12psi, so it doesnt lean out when ever you run forced induction on any car its not cheap, keep that in mind.

Re: Cheap way for setting up a Turbo EB

For a moderate increase in power, you don't need to go overboard, from what you say it sounds like 6 psi would be all you would need, you can do things like make your own manifold and getting a second hand turbo. Which doesn't cost a lot, you should be able to get the turbo hanging off the side and all plumbing for under $1000, non intercooled. But its the engine management side that costs the money that makes the difference. I went for LPG with my setup and running a mechanical dizzy, and after blowing up the second motor now, i have had to go out and spend approx $1500 extra on engine management and bigger fuel system, so at the end of the day my system will now owe me $3500, not to mention 2 motors. So cheap doesn't always mean end up cheap with forced induction.

Re: Cheap way for setting up a Turbo EB

Yes talking motors it seems the ones from utes last longer.. Maybe something to do with lower compression ??
Exactly the eec cannot take bigger injectors like an 8 can by changing maf to suit..
Using a rising rate fuel reg [fmu] with ratio's from 2 to 1 to 12 to 1 is another way around this but its more mechanicle way to do it, the eec isn't realy doing the tuning the same imo...
