ok...i'm in qld...and i am thinking about making my car into an interesting project...

basically....i wanna throw a turbo in it...

umm...what i was after is...any info on waht i need and how i might go about doin this...any info on parts etc would be very helpful...

You will need to do the following to put the turbo on your car

You will need to fabricate a new Exhaust Manifold
Fabricate all the mounts & pipes for the intercooler (that's if you are going to be using a cooler)
Get the oil lines that would feed the oil to your turbo(s),
Make a dump pipe (from turbo to the exhaust
Make all the pipes to feed the air into the intake
If your engine is old you will need to rebuild it (throw in the forgies & get your rods shot pined & polished & get the bottom end balanced)
You will need bigger fuel pump, injectors, rewriten chip or a afftermarket computer, pressure regulator
If manual you will need to get a stronger box as the T5 will fall apart the first time you step on it
If auto get a tricked up C4 (get the conversion kit from castlemain Rod Shop or Mal Wood - Both are good kits & fit eazy)
If you are getting a second hand turbo(s) good cars to get them off are VL Commodore (T3 Watercooled with steel blades), Nissan Skyline (T25 but with ceremic blades. If you push it more then 12psi you will blow the turbo up), Nissan Skyline 2.0L (Has a T25 but with steel blades, Use 2 tubos & you will have very powerfull car).

Have you thought of superchargin... You can get a supercharger off a Toyota corona 1991 (It's an import so check with jap importers). The supercharger should cost you about $400 & all you need is the mounts fabricated & a belt to suit with the pulleys. It would be much cheaper then going for turbo setup....

oh sweet info dude...thats basically what i was wanting to know..
just what i had to modify and add etc...

and what sorta power increase could i expect form the supercharger?... and if i got the supercharger would i have to modify the engine or anything else in any way?

The power increase comes with the size of your fund...the bigger the fund the bigger the power.......expect about 50% increase in power over stock....I asume that you have a 139kw MPI EA and not the carb....if you got the carby then save up & get the EFI because EFI works better with forced induction....

if i couldn't be bothered to get the MPEFI conversion, are there readily made supercharger/turbocharger kits available for my crappy CFI or should i just go with a MPEFI conversion (expensive!?) and then force the induction? thanks guys

get an entire second hand or rebuilt EB engine and put that in, that way you get younger parts and better components (i think EAs and early EBs only had 9 main bearings and the later ones have 12... later motor is much stronger- less chance of blowing the crank through the sump.

CAPA sell bolt on supercharger kits for MPI cars, about $6k i think - AARRRGGGHH!!! thats a lot of $$$

i would be happy to help you do the turbo thing though, would be a good learning experience, i can help with tools and stuff (3rd year apprentice mechanic) i dont know how much you guys know your stuff but i would like to help - and there is a guy at work that has done stuff like this before so i could ask him heaps of stuff for you, but know this - it will cost more and take longer than you think!
