hi

i am in hte process of building a new motor up for my 92 xf ute, shes a wheezy old six potter at the moment (shagged frrom a fair bit of abuse) and am pretty keen on going for a blower, i have a reasonable bottom end pieced together so far, with a cam, and am gettign teh head ported out, roller rockers ect, but i am having a lot of trouble getting information on setting up a blower, i only want to runa low boost, maybe up to 6 psi tops, am looking at a roots blower, however i cant find any information regarding manifolding for a straight six, i have however found many books dealing with 8 bangers: about the blower i was thinking if i went the roots type avenue i could but the pump on the opposite side of the motor (where the alternator is) to the intake and use a xe /xf efi intake manifold wiht a fairly long straight run from blower to intake, from my limited knownledge about it i think this will be ok to do as i know the roots heats up the air anyway???

i was also looking at a 4 barel holley carby how many changes need to be made to a carby if it is a drawthrough setup with low boost? and the other question is regards timing what do i need to do? i have been told i need to run slightly cooler plugs and does anyone known optimum timing or how can i find it out???

cheers all

Roots blower is like 6/71 style or am I wrong?

If it is, then you are out of luck with the manifold, talk to the guy that runs Sydney Competition Warehouse he used to have both blown and turboed sixes and last time I was there he had a 250 with modified inlet with a 4/71 on it. If you are serious about that style of blower see if he wants to sell it too you? thats if he still has it. If he asks about it, it had a coil pack ignition system on it. He also did a custom grind blower cam to suit the manifold runner length specifically for the 250X flow.

For suck thru I don't think the carb really needs mods done to it, just use the right size for the application.

Timing will be dependent upon many variables but generally with blown stuff you just lock out the advance and the boost advances the timing so to speak, at least thats the simplest way of doing it.
