I've seen an XF that runs 24psi on stock bottom end, runs 10's through a 3 speed auto.
I'd reakon as long as you are supplying enough fuel and not revving the thing to 6000rpm it'll take a fair amount of boost.
However you need to make it capable of supplying more fuel to prevent detonation.
8psi from a stock 250 would be about limit before you'll need better fuel pump, carby/injectors (u didn't say if it was EFI) etc
