Re: Re-building bottom end on an EF XR6 for a Powerdyne Supercharger

I can get a set of ACL Racing pistons for $280 off a mate.. Would these do? Can i run my standard conrods? Would forged be better? Can i run bigger injectors and fuel pump on a N/A engine? or will i use more fuel... i wanna rebuild the engine EXACTLY, including fuel pump, injectors, etc so that i can bolt the s/c on in 6-12 months.

Cheers,
Yagz

Re: Re-building bottom end on an EF XR6 for a Powerdyne Supercharger

With 6-9 psi, your original rods should be fine. Crank should be fine too, just ensure when you build it the block gets fully prepped, bored decked honed etc to a high tolerance. Make sure the ACL pistons are EA ones, that'll help lower the compression a little bit. Ask joe for more info about that.

Get the whole shebang balanced and blueprinted (ie build the bugger slowly making sure all is clean and torqued to specs) and it should last another 240 000ks blown. Im hoping that new head you have wasnt decked too much to raise compression, compression in a blown engine CAN be your worst enemy if not tuned right. You should be able to run bigger injectors (but not too big, EEC wont like it) and bolting the bigger pump on (you realise the fuel pump is in the tank, you wont have to do it till the s/c goes on, and a bosch 044 would suffice) shouldnt cause a drama N/A. I reckon your mostly going to struggle with the EEC V, something aftermarket will definately not only make life easier but will produce more grunt in the end as its far more flexible that the EEC. Not saying the EEC wont run it reasonably happily, I just reckon you'd get more from another computer.

Not to scare you or anything but I know a bloke who threw a CAPA kit in a AU ute. His car ran 15.9 before the blower, but only 15.3 with the blower. (note the blower install produced another 100rwkw, around 220rwkw total if memory serves me correctly) his terminal speed however was like 95mph. That kinda top end should see him a 13, the problem was his car was like a stocker till around 3 grand ish then went like a shower of shite. But you only have 400m to play with...not much road to reach those revs too often. Getting that 13 sec would have been easy if we had have either threw a bigger stally at the auto (or gone manual) and changed the diff gears, however he was more interested in keeping it pure kitten like on the street.

Just food for thought

Re: Re-building bottom end on an EF XR6 for a Powerdyne Supercharger

Pistons would be o/k but check compression height. You need dish pistons to lower compression..I know what is needed on 330 Windsor..But you have to sit down and work out gasget thickness, chamber size etc..Talk to ACL or a machine shop..About lowering compression atleast under 8.8 to 8.5..imo..
Rods are o/k unless you want to go apesh!t, but transmission etc would need changing first to take power..ARP bolts fitted BEFORE clossing and honeing rods..
ACL seem to have good rings..Just make sure a couple of thou extra in ring gap and piston clearance due to extra heat, power due to turbo engine...
Check bottom end for out of round, clearances..Machine shop will do this for you...
Ballance rotating assembly with flex plate and ballancer..
To run bigger injectors the std eec will need either tuneing or changing to EMS, Haltech etc
Fuel pump depends on your cars Klrs its easier to fit inline Bosch pump, but if the intank is sus then replace it with a 255 walpro...
Injectors from 36 to 55 Lp..Then imo tune with wide band o2 senser...

Even go as far as machining the dish larger in the piston dish, to lower the compression. Once youve had 6psi you WILL want 26psi
This is the way to go
