hahah my mate wrote off his manual 86 VL and to my utter disgust he comes back the next week with a manual 87 VL TURBO.

**** haah

anyways what i want to know is some specs about this car.
the shit on www.carsales.com.au isnt much help....

whats the stock power/torque?
whats the stock boost it runs?

0/100km times?
quater mile times?

what sort of turbo is it?
how efficent is the turbo?
anything shit about this car (other than being a holden?)

anything likely to go wrong with it?
(it has done 145,000 kays!)

What can i say? its half a nissan skylien, with a factory turbo.. not a holden. :)
Stock boost is about 6-7psi .. @ roughly 145kw standard.

Just look for info on RB30et.. i cant be bothered.

These stats are from the Sep 2000 Motor magazine Past Blast article.

Power: 150 kW @ 5600 rpm
Torque: 296 Nm @ 3200 rpm
Weight: about 1300 kg

0-100 km/h: 7.78
0-400m: 15.32

The Turbo is a Garrett T3 and like Sp33dy said boost is around 6-7 psi. The weaknesses of the car, would be that it's a VL for starters - so build quality and the interior design are terrible. It is likely to have been driven quite hard, if your mate is a P plater he is going to be hassled by the cops non-stop. I can't think of anything else to add :)

i was down chaps on the weekend in a carpark with a bunch of mates with holdens..
Cops rocked up.. MINE was teh ONLY car that wants looked over. simply cos it wasnt a holden :)

Vls also have cooling porblems standard... so a standard VL can run into problems when not looked after.... FMIC of soem type wodul be one of the first mods.!

The VL Turbo's weakness was that its chassis dated back to '76 and was way out of date. Also note that it is no faster than a manual EA.

U saying that a Stock VL Turbo manual would NOT beat a Stock EA Manual?

I am referring to an article in Wheels magazine. But Kenaz said about something about 7.78 seconds 0-100, whereas the manual MPI EA S did 7.8 on a Wheels test. Those are 2 seperate tests probably under different conditions (Wheels tests its cars with 2 people and a full tank of fuel aboard) but nonetheless the 2 cars seem approximately as fast as each other.

That is not to say that it wouldn't be pretty cheap and easy to make a VL Turbo much faster.
