turbo setup help please

Okay I am going to be purchasing a turbo, wastegate and injectors from the US for my V8.

I have been talking with some people over there and come up with this package.

-MP60-1 rated at 630fwkw available in t3 flange .84 or .96 AR and available in t4 flange .68 AR
-38mm TiAL wastegate
-42lb injectors

I was recommended to go for the t3 flanged .96 AR due to it being on my 5.0L. I'm only looking for 400-450 fwhp and 4-8psi boost (intercooled). This turbo will apparently be on boost quite quikly and i should have full boost or close to it by the time the car comes off stall (2800 odd rpm).
Anyone with any comments or suggestions are welcome. Also anyone who can tell me what taxes and duties are applicable when bringing things in from the US. I'm probably getting it sent by air to avoid the long anxious wait!

Re: turbo setup help please

Ahhh so you've decided on a turbo setup. Good luck, can't wait to see this setup. Not really sure on turbo specs, but IMO you will want the turbo to spool up as slowlyy as possible because the V8 has the low down power to cope with 'turbo lag' and if the turbo spools up too quickly it will be hard to drive around without major wheelspin problems

Import taxes are 15% on the parts only, then a further 10% (GTS) on the total cost (parts, shipping and import tax).

Re: turbo setup help please

The parts are costing $1025 US plus shipping at about $270 US (wow thats steep). So i figure I'm up for around $2276 Total. IMO that pretty good.
Yeah i went turbo. decided that capa charges too much, the turbo will make more power. Oh and i found a really good outfit to get the manifolds and plumbing done etc right here in Maroochydore. Whole thing should be done for $5-6K. I'm excited!
As soon as i have confidence in my setup i'll bite the bullet and make my purchase.

Here's something for ya to think about, all those power figures quoted from the US are on a different dyno than we use in Aust and are ALWAYS approx 10% higher than what we read over here.......so don't get to carried away with those quoted power figures.
If it's still cheaper per Kw, then go for it.

Re: turbo setup help please

you should get boost quicker than 2800 with that 0.98 ar, the 6's use turbos sometimes bigger and they come on before that. The 2800rpm stally i wouldnt think would make much difference.

Re: turbo setup help please

Yes the US always seem to get more power from less. I'm not looking to compete with them. This should turn out to be more affordable and probably more powerfull than alot for other options eg. Stroking and S/C. Most importantly it will be quite alot more potent at lower rpm than it is now. Might not have to rev it so much either.

Re: turbo setup help please

Its only cheap due to the 42lb injectors being included in the package. You should be able to get the equivilent turbo in a T4 flange for $1500 and a similar wastegate for $500 in Australia.

I would personally use a 1.00 turbine housing. A larger compressor like a 62-1 or a T66 would be nicer if you want more power in the future.
