Smile VCT & Supercharging

I currently have a Fairmont Ghia (AUII) with VCT engine.
I am looking at increasing the engine output to about 200Kw@400Nm
I believe this is too much for the standard exhaust, ECU & airbox upgrade.
Anyone had any experience with super or turbocharging these engines?

Thanks

Are you talking at the engine (compared to the 168Kw standard) or at the rear wheels (around 115kw, give or take the odd 10Kw). If you upgrade the things you mentioned, you will get that sort of increase at the engine (ie up to around 190-200Kw), but super or turbo charging would be the quickest route for the rear wheel figure.

There was a supercharger for sale that was/is fitted to an XR6. The thread is here:

200Kw at the flywheel only.
It is only a Fairmont.
One day I will be able to afford a GT, but not today.
If I go too high in HP I will have to upgrade diff, brakes etc.

Bro if you have a little cash, invest in a good exhaust first 2.5inch mandrel, get the whole lot extractors, hiflow cat, muffler and resonator, also change the air intake, whether by changing the filter or taking out the whole airbox, then if you still got some cash, either get yourself a unichip or a aftermarket computer, then dyno the car, this should get you close to 200kw at the flywheel.

Only a Fairmont - love it! I'm pretty sure it's still the same Gearbox etc that they use on the 200Kw/220Kw XRs, so you should be able to do quite a bit of work - it all comes down to $$$, I guess. As BLWNEB says, a good start is the exhaust, K&N Panel filter etc.

If you want to check the real increase, get a dyno reading before the mods, and one after - use the same dyno though. The increase at the rear wheels should be about 15 kw, which is about 20 at the engine.
