Question 07 Mustang dead battery

I have a 2007 Mustang GT Convertable. Bought it last June. Now that it's winter it sits in the garage. I try to take it out for a spin every couple of weeks, but I don't want to expose it to the weather. The battery keeps going dead on me. I checked Mustang Forums - Enthusiast Forum for the Ford Mustang and this seems to be a common problem on late model Mustangs that Ford doesn't seem to want to deal with.
I go out and the starter just clicks ... motor barely turns.. and the Shaker CD changer goes nut, switching from one CD slot to the next, and I leave the CD empty and radio off!
Ford dealer says it's the nature of the beast. Get a trickle charger. For 30K it shouldn't do this! My 240,000 mile GMC truck has no problem starting after leaving it for a few weeks.

Anyone here have this issue? Has Ford acknowledged they have a problem to anyone?

I love the car, but you know what? Those 2009 Dodge Challengers look really fine. Maybe it's time to trade!

Re: 07 Mustang dead battery

I just had my 06 GT convertible towed to the dealer for the 9th time. They've claimed to have fixed the draw down, but obviously not. I get a standard response . . . "yeah, those cars need to be driven every day at least for 20 miles" WHAT A CROC!

I wonder if its possible to bring this under lemon law . . .

Re: 07 Mustang dead battery

I have an '06 convertible that does the same thing. The battery will die in about a week if not driven. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the battery once. I guess I'm just stuck.
I absolutely love mustangs, but this is very disheartening.

Re: 07 Mustang dead battery

I've read somewhere that it's an alarm issue. The article said the horn would not honk but the lights would flash at random and for hours at a time. I don't remember where I saw the article but if I find it will post back to this thread.

Read up on your states Lemon Law. 9th time? I'd say you might have a case!!! If you bought the car used, lemon law won't help you though.

Re: 07 Mustang dead battery

I have had my 2006 mustang gt in the dealer under warranty 3 times for this. The first two times, 1. the dealer said, it was a bad battery. 2. nothings wrong replace the battery again and get a trickle charger or drive it more often. Then again, after the third time! and with a trickle charger! WTF!!!! (I was, about to invoke the lemon law!) However, it seems they may have found the holy grail of this problem. Apparently, there has been a small leak in all of these vehicles, where water is getting into the passenger side interior near the kick fuse panel or as they deem it "GEM box" this is causing rust / corrosion and therefore causing, a phantom drain by keeping certain electronic component's or electrical items at a draw on the battery. They fixed the leak and replaced the Gem. So far,... one week no trickle charger, I just let it sit and it has been starting fine. This may be it!... (Hope!) FYI: this car is always in the garage and in the rain probably 3-4 times and I hand wash this car it's never been to a automatic car wash.

Re: 07 Mustang dead battery

I dont know if this will help any of you but I work a ford dealer and recently had a mustang come in with a draw and found the cause coming from the fuel pump driver module once i disconnected it the draw went away. So hopefully this will help some of you who's local dealer told you this is normal because it not.

Re: 07 Mustang dead battery

A battery won't last forever, and Ford's policy has been that it will only work for 1 month of disuse. If you plan to store it longer than that, you need a trickle charger.

But there are 0.1A trickle chargers, and there are 2A trickle chargers. There are also 50A (peak) self-monitoring battery chargers that will adjust to whatever's needed to keep the battery charged.
