How do they work? Do they use your current temp sender and wiring? If this is the case does that mean that all temp guages use a common standard for measurement?

The reason i ask is that my XF now has a V8 and the temp seems like it works but reads really high. It starts off at the bottoms but goes off the chart within 15 minutes.

How can I check to see if its reading correctly?

All of the autometer water temp elec gauges come with senders, but the mechanical ones actually plug into the inlet manifold. Hope this was helpful.

Yes that does help, Ill have to buy a new one I think, that way the gauge matches the sender.
They are electrical in stock form arent they?

You can get either, electric or mechanical, everyone i know has got mechanical, it makes it easier to installas there is only copper tube coming of the gauge, with electric u have to run wires etc to the sender, from the gauge to ur ignition power.
