Alternator SOKING Hot! Why? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Hi ya'll. I just replaced a bad alternator on my Ford Taurus 3.0 L,,,the replacement one was used, but it immediately started re-charging the drained battery, and the car would re-start and keep running etc, but I had toi shut it off after 5-10 mins, as I would have melted the alternatore!! It was SO hot, you could not even touch it! Why would this be?
All the connections on the replacement one, were the same as the old one.

charging has as an offshoot under heavy load lots of heat ... try it again and discover the heat will drop as charge level drops or externally charge the battery

Thank you,, I thought that might be why it was so hot, { working so hard}, but this sucker was REALLY hot! I mean, it would catch fire for sure! I thought there might be a problem with this new one, but it is charging the dead battery, thats is for sure! Any other replies with this experience?
