Iv'e got a problem with corrosion on my negative battery terminal, I noticed it first about 4-5 months ago, but thought nothing of it. now however, the clamp on the terminal is almost eaten through.

Any idea what would cause this? and what could I do to stop it?

Its quite normal. You can get terminal corrision inhibitor from an auto elecs to stop it.

It can also indicate a dodgie earth conection.

I poured hot water and bi-carb soda on my terminals and when they dried I sprayed them with WD40 and it seems to have done the trick.

it is only oxidization... any sealer to stop the air getting to them it work.. Vaseline, WD40 even normal paint will work

Last time I cleaned off the battery with bi-carb, I smeared some PH grease on the terminals and it has worked a treat. It has lasted at least 8 months so far.

If it looks like it's been eaten through as you say, then it sounds like the terminal is dirty and it's "tracking". Meaning you might have an earth caused by the corrosion.

Well now Ive replaced the terminal and sprayed some sealant over it, so no ait should be able to get at it. Might have to check the other connections and make sure they dont have any corrosion on them. I am guessing that if corrosion wont happen there it might happen somewhere else, and I dont want that happening, especially on the body.
