Once while driving my fairlane on a long boring country road, i found that the 180km/h speed limmiter does not come into effect when you've got cruise control turned on, but not activated.... turn it off all together, try again, yep, it cuts out at 180 again. Not just a once off thing either, does it every time.

I'm aware the overly long tailshaft problems are most prominent with the long wheel base sedans, wagons and utes, so i was too scared to go above 200, but it could of very easily of. and ill probly never get upto those speeds again because its rare that i ever go out to the bush.

Anyone else noticed this ?

I have an ED futura 4litre, i have on many occasions got up to these speeds, but CC on or off, she still cuts off at 180kph.
(in 3rd doing 4600rpm/4th doing 2900rpm)

I must just be lucky.

ive tried it time and time again, and on mine when c/c is on you can just go way past 180 and it just keeps going.

with it off, cuts out exactly as the needle touches 180.

How exactly does it cut power from the engine, does it just stop the fuel injectors ? or shut down ignition aswell..

cant be good for it.

this is pretty interesting! My mum has a AU fairmont, and on a long open drive she wound that up to around 187 km/h, according to the speedo, I told her to slow down because she is a maniac of a driver, so i dont know if it could have kept on going...

I dont know if the car was on cruise or not, and the speedo may have been out, but the car was only about a year old when it happened, so i doubt the speedo could be that far out (it was still rising steadily). It is interesting though... but that is definately what the speedo reckons... maybe a bug like you said??

it must be a bug, maybe they dont even know about it.

id hate to think of my tailshaft wobbling at 200km/h and then snapping or somthing. bugger that for a joke. ill just stay under 180 like its meant to.
