Hey all,

my car wont start! i turn the ignition, but absolutely nothing happens! the battery is fine - we swapped them over and it still didn work.

I makes no noises or anything - its kinda like ur trying to start it when u are in drive and it wont do anything.

does that mean the isolator switch is stuffed? or it is the starter? the reason why i think it may be the starter is that for the past two months after i start it the gear takes a while to retract from the fly wheel and it starts grinding (kind of the like the noise it makes when u double start but only in short bursts as the throw out gear retracts) finally in the last week,m when the car is cold the starter would turn and then just stop. like it couldn keep on turning over the motor.

what do you think? starter or isolator?

if it is the isolater where is it and how much $$ to fix?

When you turn the key to start, the starter solenoid audibly "clicks" into action allowing your starter motor to turn.

Normally with a crap battery you'll hear a series of clicks, as the solenoid doesn't take much current to activate, but there's not enough to turn the motor.

Check your wiring from the battery to your solenoid and starter. Give your battery terminals a good scrub and ensure nice & clean. Solenoids can "stick" and a good tap with a spanner can loosen it up. Your starter not disengaging properly may get progressively worse. I'd replace it if it keeps misbehaving.

ok heres the deal. i found a stuffed fuse in my immobiliser which woul explain why there was nothing happening (no clicking or anything) Today i reconnected it all up and i can hear the solenoid engage but it wont turn over.....

so i reckon battery is stuffed? do you agree? i figure the fuse in the imobilser blew cos of the jumps in current when i turned the key....sound feasible? will swap the battery wit the one from my dads v8 this arvo...

the clutch in the starter may have gone!? similar to what happened to my car, my starter was partially touching the flywheel and the clutch got burnt out due to run on

its the starter...throw out works, just wont turn....tested the battery and it came up fine...

i have the exact same problem but if i try at it for a few minutes it will start up, mine is a manual tho so if there is a bit of an incline i just stick it in 2nd and dump he clutch and it starts. Also if i keep the key at cranking for like 45sec or so it will eventually start. I got no idea what it is as I have changed both the battery and a new bosch starter motor and the problem still persists
