Changing interior lights and other stuff

I changed some of the interior lights in my car today, just wanted to know if anyone else had done it.

I changed the main roof interior light to a blue globe... changed the lights above the sun visors to red globes (which look awesome) and the foot well lights to red globes also.

Couldn't source the covers to the passenger lights as those globes don't come in colour (at least from Jay car, Autobahn and Dick Smith) so they're gonna stay the normal colour until i can get the coloured caps for them.

I'll try and take some pictures of it tonight (as they dont exactly work durin the day hehe :)

Secondly, I'm gonna be lookin at redoing the whole head unit area as well as getting rid of the glasses holder below the headunit, and also the ash tray (considering I dont smoke, it's a waste of space.

I wanna get some plastic made up to fit in that area to include the headunit, and perhaps a gauge or two... but Im not completely sure how its all going to work out so far.

What ideas do you guys have about it? What could you put there..

This is what I love about cars, just doodling around with cheapish stuff and having fun with it, takes ur time up and makes ur car original.

Soon I wanna do the dash like DROOOZ's car.. does anyone recall what he made that out of? Hehe.. anyway, have a good one!

Cheers Nick

If you had a mobile phone kit installed you could mount the speaker in the ashtray.... mate did that years ago on a hlux, and it was a perfect fit, could be worth a shot

Re: Changing interior lights and other stuff

regarding DROOZ's dash, i think its just a paper one he printed isnt it? Looks good either way - Tickford Badges are a nice touch.

I too wanna mod some of the lighting in my EF - I'm going to look into illuminating the 'Futura' bit on the dash in front of the passenger, then do the rest (trip computer, cluster etc) blue to match my CD Player.

Unfortunately my idea of refitting AU illuminated power window buttons to my EF didnt work :( d'oh! Oh well.

Pics would be good - always like to see what people come up with to make their cars look even better!

Re: Changing interior lights and other stuff

ive changed the interior front reading lights and back reading lights to blue ones in my ea, but i cant find a cover or a blue (or any other colour) coloured globe to fit into the main light bit on my car... ive searched motorquipe, autobarn and tar coys for it and no one has one long enough that is coloured. i wouldnt mind getting miniture black lights but there very rare and expensive. i got one black light in the boot but no sub as yet to show off just a gas tank. so i might take out the black light because there aint a real point to it. i also had a 3foot long blue undercar neon in my boot which when i turned on would light up my back speakers (because there blue too), thats looked cool but then i gave it to my friend for a car show... oh well. cant wait to see the pics buddy.

Cheers
Ehab

Re: Changing interior lights and other stuff

i looked at getting black light, but nothing is white in my interior... the red light makes my face glow red though, which is cool if you were driving past me heh.

EA GHIA 2NV - if you have the same interior light as me, you should be able to get the bulb for it, i got one!

Re: Changing interior lights and other stuff

d_slayer - i drilled into the boot lid to mount the black light on the inside (sitting parallel to the number plate) and connected it to the old normal boot light wiring, which is dodge but easy, it only comes on when the boot is opened.... thats when i was going to change the boot carpet to white (realised this would get dirty very very easily and would have to remove then refit the gas tank, which you can not refit your self by law only a certified gas specialist can)

so then i hooked up the big blue one straigh off the accesories, power and earth wires at the back of the stereo and had a switch floating around for it, but then i lent it to my friend, it aint hard to do and looked great, people asked me how i got the speakers to light up. it was just shoved inbetween my parcel shelf and gas tank and it stuck there... by chance it lit up the speakers, i was happy and it looked great.

blackout - is the main interior light the same size as an ea?? because ive tried, but tomorrow im going to go jaycar and some novelty store to look for some just incase they might have some.

Re: Changing interior lights and other stuff

The main interior light on an EA Ghia and an EL Fairmont will be the same. Also on an equivalent Holden.
