confused Climate Control Unit

Poking around the wreckers today and picked up one of the black button climate control units, in the hope of replacing my ugly grey one. Unfortunately, it is not a straight swap. When I put the unit in, the fans ran all the time (with the ignition off!) and ambient temperature sensor was reading 12 (it was about 27 here today). Most of the other stuff appears to work fine (didn;t check it out too thoroughly).

Any pointers to fixing the wiring for this or have I wasted me mullah on the unit and should sell it.

Also picked up a set of EL thermos in good nick while I was there - just waiting for the control unit to arrive ....

Re: Climate Control Unit

As long as you had climate control, the wiring's the same. Suggest the unit's fried?

Re: Climate Control Unit

woo hoo, what did the unit cost you? I've been meaning to do this mod for years, but the $150 price at the local wrecker put me off...

Re: Climate Control Unit

$45 - GDM Wreckers in Brisbane. There is at least another one there at the moment. Don't know if I got a special deal due top also purchasing EL Thermos, but don't think so.

One thing, The part no for the unit I bought first was different to the second one. Having pulled them apart there are definately 2 different units (at least). The PCB and components of the unit that did not work were significantly smaller.

I have no idea where the first unit came from, or if it was indeed fried. The second unit was pulled out of an ED Ghia while I watched. Am thinking of going back to get the glossy door handles and the trip computer clock thing from that car as well.

Re: Climate Control Unit

Damn that's a good price, hope I can find something like that. I thought the only difference was the ED one saying 'CFC free' on it. Interesting stuff.

The trip computer changeover is even simpler because it's exactly the same unit with different colour buttons. Don't forget the demister button too - I ended up buying mind new from Ford for $29.
