Hi all,
I was contemplating trying this mod on for size and looking for some
feedback from others who have some expertise with this.

I own a 1998 EL Falcon XR6 and was wondering how hard it would be to replace
the whole dash unit (door to door to firewall) with one from either a
Fairmont or a Fairmont gea.

With this mod I would expect to gain, twin airbags, trip computer, climate
control, top of the line BCM, footwell lamps, top of the line sound ect.

I doesn't look to hard according to the Gregory's manual as the whole dash
seems to come out leaving about 5 big plug connectors and a few vacuome
lines running out of the firewall. all the other wiring looms seem to run
through and be part of the dash.

So what do we recon???

Firstly, I don't think the changeover is worth it - unless you have some fetish for the climate control !

Matti also has documentation on adding the footwell lamps too. As for the BCM - I'm pretty sure that it's exactly the same ! My Futura has similar (if not, the same) BCM as the Fairmont as when I installed rear electric windows, the wiring was already there - you having an XR means you have front elecs yeah ?

The 'top of the line' sound (aka Premium Sound) has nothing to do with the dash - it's a seperate unit(s). Oh yeah, the climate control uses electric servos and not the vacum lines so that + the passenger side airbag would be the only reasons to upgrade to another dash. Tough call - but if you're super keen, perhaps give Herrods a call.
