well I still have the problem of my cruise not switching off. tried different on off switches etc but to no avail. Im about to replace the speed control unit under the console. anyone else had similar problems to this??? or has anyone busted open on e of these units ?? Im thinking it might possibly havre a dry solder joint or something like that

I'd be doing a continuity check of all the wiring first to ensure you haven't got a dry joint or busted wire. Also check your switch units work - it is possible more than one is stuffed, a continuity check here will help too. Generally, a clean here can bring them back. Another area to look is the slip rings and contacts between the wheel and loom in the column.
I don't know if the ED one is similar to the EF/EL/XH one but they use the brake light switch to cancel cruise. Are your brake lights working? If not there is the problem. I know this one from experience!
Yep - standard problems on E series - mine scared the crap out of me. Replace or adjust your brake light switch.

2. If you throw it up in the air and it comes down - It's too heavy...

My brake lights work well though! When cruise is set and you hit the brakes cruise disengages as it should. It just wont switch off at the "off" swtich

if its anything like the AU cruise control you still need to manually turn cruise off to remove the "cruise" from the LCD even though cruise has been disengaged by the brake
id say look at the wiring then start changine various parts of the cruise control until it's fixed :D thats wot i'd do any way

One other thing - are you just tapping the 'off' button? On my ED ya have to hold it down for a second or so to disengage it, not sure if this is a common prob or not, but it gave me the irrits for a while. Must have mellowed, cos now it doesn't worry me!
