Well I had an 'interesting' occurrence last night, on the way home (country road, about 20 mins to drive it) i came across a car that had rolled 3/4 times, and was resting on its side.
After pulling the driver out (who was drunk i might add), and checking that the car wasnt leaking fuel or anything, i look back into the car and see exactly what i was hoping i wouldnt - a baby seat. Finally got it out of the driver that there was noone else in the car (thankyou god!), and went back and called the police and an ambulance, and put the hazards and driving lights on just to make the scene a bit more visible.
Anyway point of the story - after doing all that and leaving the car for about an hour without starting it (should have remembered to do it i know), the battery was dead, completely gone. So, does anyone have any recommendations of a brand to get for the next one - the last one was a 'maintainence free' one, it didnt give me any trouble (until last night) but Ive heard they arent very reliable/dont last long?
Only thing apart from normal stuff it'll have to power is my driving lights.
Also, how hard is it to change the connectors? Mine are looking a bit raggy, so I thought Id change them over as well, but it looks like I'm going to need to get under the car for one of them?
I got a beaut one in mine. Acording to the date etched in it, its been going for 4 years! Its got no label but its blue and yellow, and made in NZ, possibly a century. I think its about $85 or so from beaurepairs if my memory serves me right.

i also use the Century batteries, they are good bang for buck
When you change terminals try and get the ones from an audio store, the quality seems alot better.. Just use bolt cutters to snip the old ones off and a blade to trim back the sheath
we worked it out probably rolled about 3-4 times, coming to rest on the drivers side. luckily only 1 person in the car, the fact she was drunk probably saved her in a sense cos she only came out with one scratch on her arm.
Not sure what happened to her, once the cops asked me what happened i tired to leave and found out about my battery! Pretty sure she will be charged with neg driving + DUI (there was a half empty casket in the car).
Car was a Hynundai excel 4 door, and amazingly once it was back on 4 wheels, it was able to be driven off the fence and parked away from the road. Not sure if its a write off, all the side panels were damaged, but somehow the roof and windscreen stayed untouched. no idea how that happened.
I may even go out and get some photos of the car tomorrow.
