well it finally happened and it was by accident as well. the ZL now has working cruise control. after getting the brakes rewired at the auto elec and also being so hot i thought it might be nice to go for a drive with the aircon on so we could cool down a bit. cruising down the highway i thought i might try my luck and see if the cruise worked or if it was still buggered. dont know why i tried but it payed off as it worked. after all the stuffing around i did with it all it seems to have taken was to rewire the brakes and it fixed it, even the door locks work properly too. is it all related? probably not but hey.

Brake wiring would i'd assume effect it...
Brakes being on would stop cruise from engaging.

i'd like to know if its what i suggested in your previous post, that the brake switch was not corectly adjusted. i'd be almost certain this was your problem as i had it in a ZL too

well the cruise hasnt worked for well over a year and the brake lights havent worked for only a few weeks. the switches were fine as i tried some new ones that i hadnt screwed in (worked in the van this way) and that didnt fix it. there was power going through the switches but there was no power at the brake lights. the auto elec reckons the wire has broken somewhere in the car and could take days to find it so he simply did a direct rewiring of the system bypassing the original wiring completely and the only problem now is the warning light comes on the dash when i put the brakes on. this will be fixed with some black tape behind the clear cover so i dont have to look at it.
so in essence the brake lights not working had nothing to do with the cruise control but by fixing the brakes the cruise now works.
dont ask why as its got me buggered too.

ok the luxury has ended. was travelling out of town today, hit a pothole and the cruise disengaged and now it doesnt work at all again. however the tail lights still do. might move a few wires around on my next day off and see if i can get it to work again.
was good while it lasted though.
