One of my mates has a problem with the front window on his EA the cable end has come out of the regulator .Is there a trick to putting it back in without drilling out the rivits to remove the regulator

Not really. If you use a centre punch in the middle of the rivet , the thread pops out and a decent drill bit will make short work of the rivets. When you refit the regulator , just fit a couple of nuts and bolts with some spring washers. N.B they are a pain to recon and for $10 at the wreckers , it's worth going 2nd hand. EbII onwards have better regulators in them so look for one that fits from a later model.
