EF Climate Control replacement

Hi all, great forum here. I have a 1995 EF Fairmont Ghia, and the heater hasn't been working for months. A ford mechanic tells me I need a new climate control computer (>$700 new!). I might be able to get one off a mate (also with an EF) for $200, but it has different numbers printed on the actual module to mine. There is no indication as to what the actual 'part' number is. Apparently I need exactly the right model of computer for it to work in my car... Can anyone tell me if any climate control computer from an EF will work in another EF?

Re: EF Climate Control replacement

have you done a self test on the climate control module yet? do that first and see what codes it gives you. the Heater in my ED Ghia didnt work when i first got it, did a self test and it showed up that the blend motor was stuffed. $10 later swapped it over and it works 100%.

Re: EF Climate Control replacement

Yeah, did the self-check, code 'E2' came up. It was the ford service centre that told me I needed a new one to get the heater working.

Do you know if any EF climate control computer will work in another EF?

And how easy is it to install the new module? I can do it if it is a simple case of plugging the wires and tubes back in.

Re: EF Climate Control replacement

An E2 code is "Blend door servo unit". Blend motor could be faulty or disconnected, door movement obstructed or damaged wires.

If it was the control module you would get an E1 code.
E3 is Cabin sensor
E4 Solar sensor
E5 Ambient sensor
E6 Evaporator temp sensor
E7 Engine temp sensor
E8 EEC V communicating line fault

Re: EF Climate Control replacement

John_xr6, yep I reckon it must be my blend door motor. The Ford mechanic I spoke to had no idea what E2 meant.

How easy was it to replace it in your ED? I had a look at instructions to change it at http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/documents.php?doc=9 and it looks bloody painful!
