Just wondering if anyone knows if the computer from an EL will work in an EF......
There are differences that i know of in the EF to EL models, like coil packs instead of dizzy but i wasnt sure if the computers would be interchangable or not...
I have a missing problem in my EF that looks like a computer problem and a mate has an EL computer that i could try, but i dont want to stuff anything trying it and wasting everyones time if there not compatable in the first place.......
Any Advice anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.... :)
misfiring on ef's can be caused by a dodgy coilpack, i had that problem on my first car.. the heater hoses run right avbove it, if they burst or drip onto it, kiss it goodbye.
No error was detected by the ecu either.
I have actually changed the coil pack and it didnt fix the problem unfortunately..... :(
The coil pack i changed it with was second hand but came out of a car that had no missing problems at all so im pretty sure that it was ok....
The miss only happens every now and then and only for about 5 mins at a time usually but sometimes can be fairly big and very annoying, then it will just start to run fine again..... And as you would expect it never does it when i have it in the workshop for service or professional help.... :(
Any Advice on what else this prob might be as well as the computer question would be appreciated....
Nope Sorry Kwigibo, but you cannot use an EL 4.0L EECV in an EF 4.0L unless you change the harness and put a distributor in it.
The EL EECV is kind of an EECV in an EECIV box so it has the EECIV 60 pin connector. The EF EECV is a true EECV with the 104 pin connector and built in direct ignition driver chip(EDIS6).

No problems at all.
It's quite possible that Ford began fitting the EL setup in late EF's....I think you'll find your EF has a 60pin EEC connector hence the whole EL setup.
The direct ignition EECV from the EF was apparently troublesome and forced them to return to a distributor system for EL. One thing is for sure...you cannot have an EF EECV running a distributor equipped engine or vice versa.
