Hello to everyone first off
I have a fake EF XR6 GLI and when i go from low beam to high beam my lights flicker on and off a few times then they go out all together, if i drop back to low beam alls good again
Ive tried replacing the relays , doesnt help, any ideas on whats wrong??
also the bloody windows are tight as hell to wind up on the front doors, you have to pull them back to make them go up
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
does anyone know what ratings should be on the xr6 headlight relays, are they different from the GLI ones

A similar thing happens when you put XR lights on an EA/B/D.
If you choose high beam, the lows go out.
Can't remember why it happens but if i do I'll post it.
Most ppl just say... Buy a real XR :)

ive read a few comments on this is not the same thing, my lights flicker on and off and then eventually go out all together
im thinking its a problem with the column switch or the high beam relay not good enough for the job , its like once it gets hot it fails
id be interested to see what a real xr6 relays are rated too.

I had the same problem with a Commodore (Ok don't say it) it turned out to be the relay holder and fuse holder getting hot and the contacts went high resistance.This makes the problem worse until they went out alltogether. The fuse holder melted. I split the load from the lights between two relays and put an inline fuse that would not melt. Also I put thermal cutouts in also so no chance of a fire. Ihave seen this happen and you would not believe how quick a car can catch fire.
Most manufacturers only supply wiring and relays etc that just do the job, so when we improve things we must improve the wiring etc.

Just been playing with the lights and found that the low beam goes through its own relay and the high beam goes through its own relay too
the funny thing about this is that the high beam when turned on must split and go to the high beam headlights and also go back to the low beam relay too keep them on when the high beam is on
Just wondering how much can you push through a 40a relay, can they infact run high as well as low?? as the high beam relay is the one clicking all the time
can you get a higher amp relay to handle this better ??

well i know u can get 60A SPST relays from Jaycar, how many legs are there on the relay and are they all used?

im sure the XR's use a higher wattage high beam globes too so it could be the cause. but i would also think that if they were drawing more current than the relay could handle, it would melt.etc... but the higher amp relay would prob the best thing to try first
