I've just bought myself a 1996 EFII Futura (with some reading of these forums as reference), and i'm slowly doing it up (tickford snorkel mod etc).
The existing steering wheel is starting to wear across the top, and i'm looking for a replacement. I don't want to replace the airbag unit cover, i just need the outer part of the wheel. I also need a wheel that will suit the cruise control buttons.
I asked for a price from ford for a replacement wheel, and was quoted about $400. I'm really not after anything that expensive (hell, i could probably buy a momo surround for that kind of money).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to any manufacturer who makes compatible wheels, or, what i'd be looking at for a replacement genuine ford wheel from somewhere like a wreckers? Also, are AU/BA wheels compatible? Or, if i decide to bite the bullet, where could i buy a compatible momo wheel, and what kind of price would i be looking at?
Thanks heaps. Sorry for so many questions, but i'm new to this...
Yep, its an easy job. You will require a Torx drive, size 50 from memory which isn't part of the standard sets so you may have to visit a specialist tool shop, about 4 bucks I think.
A steering wheel puller is also handly but you can remove it without one, make sure you disconnet the black connector from that disk thing 1st.
the cruise control buttons will transfer across no worries and use the backing shell off your current wheel as this has the cutouts for the CC buttons.
Airbag removal is as easy as it looks, just make sure you disconnect the battery and leave it for a few minutes before you remove/replace the thing.
Whats the secret for putting the wheel back on straight?
I noticed my old Cruise wheel in my ED was a little off to the left. SO when I bought my MOMO I tried to correct it but I always seem to have it to one side of the other by about 2 or 3 mm. The teeth don't seem to line up to get it dead centre!!

EF onwards have a square hole/shaft rather than splined so its easy.
I've never had problems aligning the splined shaft setup. As JCV said, alignment will fix it but it could also put the indicator cancel cam out of position if its way out.
