The backlight on my odometer has stopped working.

You can read the odo, but its very very faint. and impossible to see at night.

does any one know if its easy to fix this problem, just replacing some globes?

Yes, just the globe (had the same thing a couple of months ago). You need to pull out the instrument cluster.

remove the fascia that covers the cluster and the climate, A/C panel

then you will see the 4 screws that hold the cluster into the dash

If you put the steering wheel down to its max you can slip your hand in behind the cluster you can turn the bulb holder and remove it without actually removing the whole cluster

Tip: make sure you already have bought the bulb, its an all in one job, bulb and holder are one piece

You will probably find the bulbs slip out of the holders.

Some are one piece, and some aren't (seen both varieties). It will depend on what Ford sells you
Not a daunting job, but that said, mine blew and Ford charged me $20 to do it while servicing. At the time, it was worth the laziness :) (although I wouldn't bother these days).

If you do a search on changing the cluster lighting here, you will probably find more detailed instructions on removing the fascia and cluster, otherwise have a look at www.fordmods.com - they definitely have step by step instructions for EF/L's...
