Re: EL stereo installation gone wrong
Ok, i've calmed down a bit now. Had a bit of "Just bought the thing and did a simple thing and now its screwed totally" paranoia.
I re-traced my steps and realised one major thing. I didn't disconnect the battery before starting on the electricals, and I was working with the doors open. Idiot!
Anyway, i've checked the fuses like you advised. And, like you guessed, the courtesy light 10amp fuse was blown. REALLY blown. It's the only fuse gone. The fusebox in the engine bay is fine.
The smartlock immobiliser isn't engaged, as far as I can tell. For starters, the engine is turning, but just not starting. I've read in the manual that this doesn't happen if smartlock is on. Also, the dash smartlock light is not on.
The central locking remote key button doesn't work, the internal lock button doesn't work either. I can lock the car with the key though. Same goes for the boot.
The stereo is wired up fine, i'm just lost on two wires- and it happens to be the most important one. The power wire. I am unsure as to what the turquoise wire and the black with pink stripe wire is related to.
I have touched no other wiring, these were all out of the factory head unit wiring plugs. The smaller plug controls the rear speakers, and the larger plug controls the power, accessories link, earth, dimmer, illumination and front speakers for the factory head unit.
Now according to my guide, these are the wires:
Blue/ white stripe = Accessories 12v. This is a heavier gauge wire.
Green/ yellow stripe = Battery 12v.
But I don't have the green with yellow stripe wire, I just have a smaller gauge green/turquoise wire and another, unlisted wire which is black with a pink stripe.
I noticed that the same blue with white striped wire is going into the cigarette lighter, with a black earth. Should the lighter be running off accessories power?
Any help appreciated, especially as to wire colour meanings.
