I just picked up a 17 inch electric fan with shroud from a Lincoln and there are 3 wires going to the motor. I assume that it is a 2 speed fan but what is the color code for the high speed, low speed and ground. They all have different color stripes on the wires. I tried to use a meter to determine ground to frame of motor but it would not read. I am going to change out the old mechanical fan on my truck. Any help would be great. If no help here I guess I will head down to the local Ford dealer and ask the shop manager but I have found them to be less than cooperative if you didn't buy it from them.

What are the wire colors? Also, a quick check with a couple battery leads would be a safe and quick determination. Just fuse the hot with a 10 to 15 amp fuse. You will need to determine which one drives the fan in the direction you want and the high speed side is what your probably going to use anyway. You wont hurt the fan. Just secure it with something so it dosent bite you when it starts. Hooking one up backwards will only cause it to run in the wrong direction.
