Re: electrical disaster

If its melting the harness, then you have a live to earth somewhere.

The XD and XE diagrams should be very similar.
Ford have maintained the same basic colour coding since the late 50's.. i.e Pink is ign power to coil +.

Sorting out where the short is could be a problem.

You don't mention which part of the harness is melting. I have a combined XD-XE-XF Manual that might help, but no scanner.

Wire colours are important.

You might need to repair the loom, but not cover it (elect tape etc), and single out which wire gets hot. First re-apply battery Power, check the loom, then start turning systems on, to see what gets hot. Whatever it is probably will do it without the engine running.

Other things to check... Fuses, make sure they are the correct amperage. If one is higher, and you replace it with the correct lower amperage, and it blows, then you have an idea where to start your search.

Another thing on these, is that they do suffer from chafing of the loom that loops over the top of the steering column....had this one personally.

Cheers
Jas
