The electronic display on the dash that tells you how many km's you car has travelled is dead in my dad's EL. Does it have a fuse or it the LCD totaly dead? Has anyone had the same problem and what is the fix?? And how much?

Is it totally dead or can you kind of see it if you look closer??? It is a 'backlit' display and there's a globe for that makes it light up. I would say it's just globe...

Had the same thing in my XH when i got it. Should be the same as an EL. If you get a torch and shine it on it while the ignition is on you should be able to read it. If so then it's just a globe.

Getting these dashes out of EL is dead easy, (5 minutes)
Grab a manual from the library or see if you can get a copy from a dealer (?)

While we are on the subject of ripin the dash out. I have one more question, same car. The air vent, that controls air flow from outside or circulates the air in car dosent work either, it always sucks air from outside!!! What could this be???

If its the same crappy plastic lever setup that XF's have, then that crappy plastic lever has broken.

You cant glue it cause you cant get enough strength with it, but they can be fixed with a bit of improvisation.

I got a small peice of flat steel, drilled a hole at each end of it and then screwed it onto thwe bropken plastic bit...works a charm.

Hehehe seems all falcon owners are in this party. My backlite display for the odo etc died a while back it's definitly the globes. As when it's shining in the sun you can see the numbers.

I also have the same problem with the outside/inside air. With mine the switch works but it seems it doesn't go into re-circulate mode, how do i access this plastic lever to do the mods to make it work.

BTW guys it's great to have this discussion as we can exchange ideas on fixing our falcon problems.

Also on my EF the illuminate globes for the AC switch died, i have fixed the problem though, took the whole panel switch of the ait controls out and got my mate to re-solder the contact points no problem so far except the illuminate shines through the selector light, ie where it shines orange it illuminates white. I buggered the backing on the switch but can't be bothered to fix it. :crazy3: :crazy3:

This one is from an XD, so it is made of metal, but this is the same lever that breaks on newer models.

As far as I know, youhave to pull the dash to get to it.

Make sure you're getting vacuum to the actuator first before pulling the dash....
