Latly the escorts speedo lighting has gone down hill, that when driving at night cant see the speed. what could be the problem? how can i get it better. the petrol and temp one is good.

have you tried cleaning the light bulb contacts? Or swaping the speedo bulbs with the petrol/temp bulbs?

Yep still the same theres a voltage regulater on there might see how much volts its givin out.

You will find the voltage is low. There is little you can do. I used to rally Escorts and the dash lamps were very dull. I had a german RS 1800 dash and it was red.

I had this problem with my old Mk II Escort. The problem is the tinted plastic covers that make the gauges light up green. As they get old, they get harder to shine light through. You can fix this by removing the Instrument Cluster, then removing the tinted covers. When I did this on mine, I replaced the tinted covers with little green light tinters, known in the trade as Light Condoms.

This should fix your problem so you can see the gauges at night, and still have the green tint.

Oh so these go over the globes or replace the stock ones dat are screwed on. my mate goes they can melt ?? those light condoms

I have had these covers on the dash light on my XR6 for a few years now without a problem. If you put them in your Escort, remove the original ones as this is what is stopping the light shinning through.
