I've got an interior light that I want to put in my xf gl. The light is the one with the spotlight either side. I think its out of a fairmont. Has anyone ever put one of these in and if so how?

The light I have doesn't seem to have anywhere to plug a wire onto it and I am unsure how to mount it. The original has four screws to hold it on.

Any help or pics would be appreciated.

the wires dont plug in, they screw onto the light itself as it is a contact as well as a mounting point.
if that makes sense at all or helps im unsure

you will also need to run a constant 12V to the light if you want to be able to use the reading lamps when the interior light isnt on

As Yellow said a constant 12V must be run to the interior lamp or the spot lights wont work....the regular interior light will work without this tho...if you go and have a look at a Ghia/Fairlane/LTD at the wreckers youll see the additional wire...im not sure if it will be easy to pull out and adapt it into the wiring of your GL....best to take a look and see what i mean

How would I get a new wire up into the roof easily?

Any ideas?

Heres how I did it:-

Pull the door trim channel away at the top of the drivers door (the one with the seal rubber stuck to it).
That will expose the headlining.
Carefully peel the headlining awy from the roof frame for about 400mm in the centre of the door frame.
You will need a long piece of wire (like coat hanger wire) with a loop in the end.
You will then be able to gently pull the headlining down enough to insert the wire down the A pillar, tie a cable to the loop and pull it up.
The wire can then be used from the centre of the roof (after removing the interior light) to the right hand side (where the headling has been pulled down) to fish the wire through.

Then use contact ahdesive to glue the edge of the headline back in place.

Etc...

Takes about 30 minutes.
