Let me say, I know absolutely NOTHING about Mustangs or any other cars. I just want an answer to settle an argument.

My cousin bought this '96 Convertible. She came by to take me to run some errands, but then won't let me go with her because:

"You can't ride in my car, because the seats could never be replaced if something broke them."

Now I tried to tell her that I'm not THAT fat (250), and I had ridden in my friends car (exactly like hers) dozens of times with no bad results.

I she being paranoid AND rude or just rude?

Does she know something about the strength of the seat brackets or the seats that I don't?

Its about the design standard now for US cars....lets face it if something happened out of the ordinary that damaged the seat tracks, then the whole car would be a total loss anyhow. The seat tracks and other seat componants are designed to progressivley fail to minimise occupant crash severity.

BUT...if you are a person who throws you weight into a seat, it will also eventually fail also. If you are a person who settles into a seat like a 'normal' person, then carrying you weight will have no ill effects.

My mums heavier than you (MUCH) and she hasn't dissapeared through the floorboards yet...and she drops all her weight in...everytime

I'd say ill-informed bordering rude
