This is my first post on the forum and I hope somebody out there can give me some direction in the AJAR Switch for the Fuel lid on my 1998 Fairmont AU Ghia. The lid is being indicated in the "Open" status on my Dash. I recently purchased the 3 Volume workshop manuals and thought a small problem like this would be no Problem. The schematics show the switch but the Switch symbol is unfamiliar with me. When I looked at the item it looks like a moulded item with two wires from it. There is a bracket on the door with a rectangular hole in it where I suspect there is suppose to sit something what went missing. I expect the moulded switch ( Ford# 94DA9K160AA) to be a "Reed" switch which will be closed/opened by a magnet. I suspect it is the magnet what is missing here. Can somebody confirm this and is there a certain magnet required or can I order on from a dealer? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

There should be a picture on the parts computer database, you may be able to tell if yours doesn't look right from that (usually pretty small pictures though). Or you could have a look on another car.

I will have a look at another car and otherwise see if I can get one from a wreckers or Ford dealer.

The parts computer database you mentioned, is this located on the forum site?

Yes the square magnet is missing; not an unusual problem.

the picture being referred to is on the ford database, its what the spare parts guys use to find parts when people ask for them. So you'd have to go see them and ask for a look at it - its VERY difficult to get a copy of the database on a non-Ford computer.
