having a prob recently with my digital speedo in my EA at idle
fluctuates now and again from 0 up to something else and back to 0
i also think i might be doing it when driving along giving a false reading

Check your earths. When the electronic speedo loses it's reference earth, it can cause a spike similar to receiving a true signal.

In fact all connections...
Look at the solid red and solid white wires going into the back of the dash, these are power and signal wires.
Does anything else act funny? If so its most probably an earth, would be my guess also.
