Re: Getting the heater core out of the XF

Step 1. REMOVE THE DASH.
Step 2. Cut a hole to get the core (you will see where) or de-gas the A/C and pull the whole thing out.

OR

I think remove the glove box,, cut a hole, and alot of &**^%$ effort you can get the heater out.

I did step 1 and step 2, then got a re-gas of the A/C.

Re: Getting the heater core out of the XF

I did one in the XE. I think it went:

-remove centre console, kick panels etc.
-drop steering column onto the seats
-disconnect all wiring/vacuum leads and remove dash
-disconnect heater and AC condenser in the engine bay at the firewall
-remove heater box assembly, the heater core is inside this

This method takes a fair while but you don't have to cut anything. Assembly is a reversal of removal, paying special attention to seals, especially vacuum leads, you don't want to have to pull the dash out again. This is a very big job, allow a whole day. A mechanic will generally quote you about 8 hours labour.

Hope this helps.

Re: Getting the heater core out of the XF

You can actually get away with just dropping the dash onto the floor of the car, saves disconnecting everything behind the dash, I've done about 8 or 9 of these and have got it down to 4 hours, pretty easy once you've done one, everything only plugs into one place so you won't have any dramas...

Re: Getting the heater core out of the XF

Like has been said, dash removal, then access to the fan/heater box is very easy. all bolts to remove fan/heater box are located on the firewall on the engine bay side.

I've done 4 dash removals and takes about 5-6 hours (with smoko's).

I prefer to take the dash completely out of the car, much more room inside when getting the fan/heater box out.
