Hey there. My friends got a 97 Mercury Sable. His interior lights (the ones that come on when you open the door) will not turn off automatically, and the switch (located with the headlight switch, etc) doesn't turn them off either.
In order to get them to turn off, we first removed a 5A fuse for the interior lights (which didn't turn them off) and than a 10A fuse "Battery Saver" which, when removed, turned the lights off immediatly. So both fuses are not in the fuse panel at this time.
Another thing, he said that from time to time the car will say that not all the doors are closed, when they all are. (I believe that when the interior light was on, it DIDNT say a door was open)
I was wondering what could be causing this, as he would like to have interior lights, yet, not on all the time.

my 96 sable did the same thing.took it to the dealer and he sprayed wd40 in the door latches..the switch that turns the dome light off is in there..fixed it..give it a try..
