Hi all,

Was wondering about locks. Ok, got the 88 EA (STILL off the road, awaiting new engine. Costs alot, am saving!).

The boot lock is stuffed. As you prolly know, there is a little clip which connects it all up. Well mine is broken, so I can only open the boot with the button on the dash, the key won't work. How do I fix this? Do I have to get a new lock or can something be used in place of it? I also discovered that if your battery is flat, the boot button on the dash won't work!!! I didn't know they were connected.

Also, has anyone converted their EA to central locking? Is it best to go to the wreckers and get it out of another ford or should I get an aftermarket kit?

i got a $29 aftermarket kit from jaycar, and didnt have a problem in the 5 years i owned my EA.

I'd go aftermarket as well, the reason being the Ford motors on the E series cars get very tired and sluggish. I have one of the cheap Jaycar kits for my Laser which I've yet to try, but I know there are top brand name ones for $70 or so plus installation...

Only $25! Done deal, will go down to Jaycar next week. Need more cabling for my new sub amp anyway.

That's put my mind at rest. Would SO like to not have everyone standing out in the rain (which is rare for NSW, being a drought and all), waiting for me to get my big butt inside and unlock all the doors!

The next thing i would recommend is a cheapish alarm system, so you get keyless entry :) I paid around $100 for the alarm i had in my EA from Jaycar..

I have an alarm system on it already. My only problem is that it is old - as in, I think it was put on the car when it was NEW. The remotes for the alarm sometimes don't work and they are looking the worse for wear. And the alarm goes off sometimes for no reason, and then when it is hard to turn off it's embarrassing!

So we disconnected the bugger. It is one of those yellow light car alarm thingies... are they still around cos I'd like them to fix it!
