Guys, I bought one of those Momo gear knobs off eBay for the AU.
It is one of the Auto ones.
The side button (which I transferred over from the standard knob) is very loose.
Looks like there should be a plastic insert in the end of the knob which would then stop the side button from flopping around.
Rang Ford spares and they do not list such an insert and the side button is the same one for all models.

Any one have any clues ??

I know it's been awhile, but have you fixed this yet? I just ran into the same problem, turns out there is a spring in the old shifter that the new one doesn't have, I just transfered this over, now the button is tight.
