Read Mk2 pod gauges into Mk1

Has anyone fitted the Mk2 gauges into their Mk1 gt or gtp?

I have a customer who want s me to purchase and fit some for his GTP Mk1 (I have MK2 pursuit for numbers), Local ford dealer is getting prices for all parts need, but I was wanting to know what sort of time it took and if wiring may allready be in the loom.

Thanks again
Mick

Re: Mk2 pod gauges into Mk1

I doubt very much that the wiring is already in the loom on a Mark 1, apart from wiring it's all pretty simple. The worst bit for wiring is getting it up to the top of the dash but I've just finished doing the same thing and the trick is to poke an electricians snake down the right of the center console at the top where you have taken the piece of dash away that will be replaced by the gauge holder. There is one screw securing the center console piece undo it and gently pull the console forward about an inch, this will give you good access to the small squarish hole to poke the snake down, it should come out down by where your left foot sits in the footwell (next to the clutch) I cable tied all the wires to the snake so they would'nt come off half way up or anything.

I ran the wires through the large oval grommet surrounding the heater cable (at least I think it's the heater cable, just above the clutch) to get access through the firewall.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, What sender units did you use?

Several ford dealers can not even tell me if I need different senders.
