I doubt very much that the wiring is already in the loom on a Mark 1, apart from wiring it's all pretty simple. The worst bit for wiring is getting it up to the top of the dash but I've just finished doing the same thing and the trick is to poke an electricians snake down the right of the center console at the top where you have taken the piece of dash away that will be replaced by the gauge holder. There is one screw securing the center console piece undo it and gently pull the console forward about an inch, this will give you good access to the small squarish hole to poke the snake down, it should come out down by where your left foot sits in the footwell (next to the clutch) I cable tied all the wires to the snake so they would'nt come off half way up or anything.
I ran the wires through the large oval grommet surrounding the heater cable (at least I think it's the heater cable, just above the clutch) to get access through the firewall.
