XF__UTE

Hi.

I'm thinking of replacing the bench seat out of my ute. The bench is adjustable in that you can tilt it forward or backfor leg room so I think it must be sitting on 2 rails, one on each side of the body - body pattern shouldn' be an issue. I'm helping a mate wreck an 89 Honda Prelude and the seats in it are pretty sweet. Has anyone done a bench to bucket seat conversion? Any advice would be great.

The best way to find out is have a look, you should be able to see of the seats are mounted on rails or not, you might have to pull the seats out.

Not sure on the Honda seats but XG/H seats will bolt styraight in if the holes are their.

You're right, there is one rail on each side. Not sure with the XF, but with the earlier vehicles, you had to drill out the floor pan (two holes each side) next to the tranny tunnel to fit buckets. The crush tubes should already be in the strengthening rail under the floor. May have to add some reinforcing under the floor where one of the bolts goes through from memory. Best to get this plate from under a bucket seat vehicle - just drill out the spot welds and re-weld it into yours.

As for using Honda seats, they will have to be attached to Ford rails. Quite often, an adapter frame may need to be made, which I guess would require an engineers certificate. And I don't think that's cheap!
