Oil Light flickers when I brake on the instrument cluster and with engine decrease and increase and sometime i sit on a speed the oil light dont flicker have done over 500km wth the oil light doin this no damage to motor as of yet. could the oil pump be at fault or oil pressure or oil pressure sender unit? whats ur idea to rectify this prob

could be a bad dash earth somewhere (dont remember where they earth out in the XF)

also check the condition of the black ground cable from the battery to the engine near the front of the thermostat housing.

Out of curioisity, did you check the oil level when it first started doing this??

yeah bought the car off lady she had it sittin for approx 6 months without bein started. when i did oil change last week. noticed the old oil was very black and watery

mine has 2 green bars (sometimes less) when at idle and goes up as you accelerate. often hits the other end of the scale when on the highway but goes down, then back up and so forth.

do you know why the xf has this prob for? i thought it maybe a faulty oil pump. what have you done to rectify the problem?

i put in an S pac cluster and oil sender. what have i done to resolve this problem?? i simply dont look at that section of the gauge.
maybe the oil pump is on its way out but while the temp gauge isnt going up any, and there arent any other symptoms of engine damage, im just choosing to ignore it.
doesnt really help you but i dont know the problem either.

must be me oil pump then as me temp sits half way on highway if not more around town the temp stays onm 2 bars form cold so obviously this is telling me that the oil pump is on its way out

my temp stays halfway as well but thats both on the highway and around town.
ring a mechanic and ask them what they think it is.

thinking more to oil pump ten anything as the motor has a knock in it under acceleration. thought it was a lifter but seems to me the engine oil isnt getting up into the engine and that the main bearing is the culprit.
