painting dash

hoi hoi.

i want to paint the centre dash (where the transmission is) and the plastic insert/casing where the tacho, and possibly the air vents white. i was going through the forums, but am still unsure as to what i should use and how to use it. i really dont want to botch the job, eg, like scratching occuring or not colour not turning out properly. so could someone whos done this before please just give me a brief rundown on materials and method. that'd be much apprecieated

ta fellas

If you intend to do it with spray cans, you need to get yourself some plastic primer and prime them first.

Make sure you clean them very well, use spray'n'wipe then wash it lightly with detergent.

So prime them up, let it dry, and spray a colour you want (suited for plastics) and do 2-3 coats of that. then finish it with clear coat (2-3 coats) and you will have a showroom finish.

The main thing is take your time, dont rush it.

Re: painting dash

Depending on the colour u want, u could do what i done and use vinyl dye.

I used VHT dye, available at most auto store.
Cam up pretty good.

The original color can be seen around the CD player.

This stuff is available in black, red, blue, tan, and some others i have forgotton.

But if u want a silver, or metalic color, u will have to use paint.

Re: painting dash

Here's a shot of my dash as well, using the same dye stuff that EFJase has used. I only did the dash surround bit, but I did it over a year ago and has shown zero sign of wear.

Goes well offsetting the grey with the black mats, seatcovers and leather steering wheel I think.

Thanks.
I used 'Satin Black'. Which i think is more a matt black.
And i didnt put a clear coat ontop. I didnt think it was necesary.

Only wear ive had is the window winder handle thingys. Should have left it longer b4 putting them back in (or not have spray em at all)

Be sure every thing is taped up well. And give every thing a good wash first.

Spinksy, that looks great. Where did ya get the wheel from? or was it a factory thing?

Re: painting dash

EFJase, I got the wheel from Mick Webb of SVO Motorsport through this site, it is an AU XR8 leather wheel.
It was only about $60 including postage, might be worth sending him an email if he still has any he is selling cheap.
