Howdy ppl,

Thought Id ask you XD / XE owners what causes the speedo to stop working? And whats the fix.

It must be a fairly common problem, cause I now have two XD Falcon v8s and both speedo's seldom work properly. It sometimes works, then all a sudden it will chuck a funny and waver between your current speed & zero klm.

I know the speedo is not cable like the older cars, and I thought it may be something to do with the speedo drive that goes into the gear box.

Also don't know if speedo drives are different between boxes. My XD has an FMX while my fiance has a C4.

(I can fix just about everything else, but I fall down when its electrical)

Any help would be appreciated.

can be the speedo transducer on the transmission...

these tend to fail once they get old/oily and dont send out the proper signal to the speedo head in the cluster...it can be found on the side of the trans with a plug coming out attaching to the wiring loom. The connection may also be loose/full of dirt...try checking that first!

I know what you are taking about, I was referred to it as a speedo drive above.

They have a plastic head (or wheel), I'll try what you say, otherwise will try replacing with new one, surely couldn't cost that much.

My EA use to have that problem if I remember correctly it cost me $40 or $60 to get Ford to fix it. It use to put my car into 3rd gear which made for some slow acceleration from the lights!
