hey all i am fitting a rev counter in my 1980 mk2 escort


now i have become stuck as i cant figure out how to fit it ie wirng any one able to help ta all ratboy

Does your rev counter (tacho) come with wiring instructions?

Most have 4 wires that need connecting. I'll have a guess at the colours which may vary depending on brand. You can buy a set of crimping plyers and various plug ends that make wiring everything nice and tidy.

1. Red: wire into 12V ignition wire.
2. Black: connect to earth/chassis frame
3. White: connect to dash lighting
4. Green: Connect to coil negative terminal (tacho signal input)

that pretty much covers it.

the green ( tacho signal or pick-up ) goes out and conects to the coil on the engine.

the coil should be marked with a + ( positive ) and - (negitive ).
you need to conect to the - ( negitive ) side .
